Something my pastor said a couple of Sundays ago, really stayed with me.  He said that "patience hitches a ride with understanding".

Then he gave this example (which is a true one)............

While he was preaching one Sunday, he noticed that some people near the back were turning around looking at the people sitting on the back row.  They were obviously getting irritated with the back row people for continuously low-talking going on from one of them to the others.  He (the pastor) noticed that their impatience was growing because the talking continued, even though it was done very low.

So, the pastor stopped his preaching to explain that we have a spanish interpreter for our non-English speaking congregants, and to please ignore the low talking going on in the back of the sanctuary.

Immediately, upon UNDERSTANDING what was really happening (not what they previously thought), the people who were irritated were no longer irritated but totally patient with the constant quiet talking going on.

Patience hitches a ride with understanding.
