Title: Try again! Helloooo!
Post by: flaglady on August 29, 2018, 09:01:05 pm
God must be everso lonely in here! Thought I'd drop in and offer some company!I had a telephone conference today - a research group I'm part of. I'm the patient representative, very small fry. The rest are all professors and such! embarrassed myself hugely by falling asleep half way through the 1┬╝hr call! Woke when the lead Prof was calling to me in ever increasing decibels! Wonder how long he'd been trying to wake me? Just hope they couldn't hear me snoring over the phone!!..
Bet you had a good chuckle at that, God!

Hi Jo. I don't think I've ever had that happen, but I have had at lease one embarrassing meeting moments. I had a work meeting, I don't even remember what it was for, and there were no seats when I got there. My back began to hurt from standing, and someone offered me his chair, I had become such a distraction from trying to find a pain-free position.

Oh that made my back ache, just reading it!

At this point it's just a memory. I don't remember the actual pain, just that it had hurt, and the event.

I do miss that job. The only thing I didn't like about it was not being home with my family while I was at work, and the round-trip was about 2 hours, in good weather and traffic. If it snowed enough I would leave 2 hours before my start time.

I often came home feeling like my brain had been in a blender because some days it took every bit of analytical and creative ability I had.

"it would feel like my brain had been in a blender"!! What a very descriptive comment!

Best way I know to describe it.

I can relate. After a long day of developing solutions, problem solving, analyzing, troubleshooting, etc., I am mentally exhausted! It's a different kind of tired from doing physical labor, but tiring nonetheless.

I remember when I was working as an occupational health nurse, I spent the day in clinics, listening to patient's problems and writing reports on them. I only saw 8 or 9 a day but it was very tiring. That and an hour's drive home! Good job I only ever worked 2-3 days a weeks!..Have you had any more trips to the UK, Pete?

Pete, why can't I make paragraphs in my posts any more? No matter what I do, it always ends up in one block of text.

No recent trips to the UK. None planned at the moment either.

I'm not sure why the formatting is wonky (technical term) when posting. If I get ambitious, I may wipe the forum and re-upload the latest version. Have no fear, this would not result in a loss of posts. It would just basically give us a fresh set of source files. With all of the add-ins installed and uninstalled over the years, the code is less than ideal. But that would be no small undertaking, so I have to have the time and proper motivation.  ;)

Oh well never mind. If it had just been a matter of a tick in a box that's one thing. But there's no point in doing all that just for one or two of us!

This forum has not been updated in quite some time. The source code is a mess of edits, deletes and modifications from over the years and it is behaving very erratically in some cases. I am going to take some time to update to the latest version of the code shortly. So you will likely notice a very different look in the next day or so, but it should be much more stable once it's been refreshed with the latest code.

If I had something pithy, I'd be happy to post it. I'm a bit down the last few days. I'm a pretty emotional person, and far too subject to moods. I struggle to have the balance of having emotions without letting them drive me.

Nothing pithy at the moment. Maybe you'll have to provide food for thought.

Then how about this - pauses to think of something! Oh yes! I've been watching some documentaries where archeologists were trying to prove Biblical events. So far the list includes The Fall of Jericho, The Great Flood, Exodus, The Stone of Jacob and The Lost Tribes of Israel. Phew! Can't decide whether I believe half of them or not! They certainly sound very plausible!

Hi Jo!

I just got a happy birthday email from site and sheepishly realized I had not been here in YEARS. YEARS, People! Lordy. but I do think of you, truly.

I hope every is well.

Today is my birthday and I am very sad. One of my dearest heart friend died yesterday.

I don't think I've had a close friend die before, but I do know it is part of the honor of growing older. Tis to be expected.

Just means there will more for my big reunion day!

I hope everyone is doing well. Pete, I've enjoyed seeing your vacation postings on facebook. Did yall enjoy Daytona? Have you ever been to the Gulf coast? If yall ever go back, I would highly recommend the Gulf coast for the turquoise waters and thick white sands. I love how much yall love the beach!

We are doing well. My husband is still working, looking to have back surgery AND a hip replaced sometime soon. Both my kids are working and living independently and dating a serious guy/gal. My parents have aged out of living in their home alone so they have been moved and are loving living in a senior retirement community. I've taken over the details of their lives. We enjoy our dogs, friends and the Lord. Hope everyone is doing well!

Dana, So good to hear from you! I was actually watching Dirk's Youtube on folding a fitted sheet just last night! I reckon now he's 'survived' the shoulder replacement, he's up to anything!

Welp, my laptop took one of those terminal Windows updates, and I had a Skype meeting with a temp agency scheduled. I love my company, but hate my job. I had to replace it in time for the meeting, and didn't have much money to work with. I got the least expensive laptop that would actually do anything. I got it home and the camera didn't work, and they didn't have the same model in stock. I am now the not so proud owner of a Chromebook. It does most of what I need it to.

I can get the other laptop to run on a Linux live boot, so I should also be able to run a Window$ repair install, if I take the time.

This had the benefit of showing me just how much I have been relying on myself, and not resting in God. I am changing that.

On a completely other note, with little spiritual value, a dirt stock car track in the area has it's 3 day end of the season racing event. It's almost too much racing for me.

If you're referring to the races, I guess they are. I don't hear it as noise, more like the sounds of family fun. 8 of the 12 features were good races, and I got to hang out with a set of friends for about 6 hours and another friend for another hour. The spring car race was won by inches. It was a great race. Sprints are 1,400 pounds, 900+ horsepower, and they go over 120 miles per hour on a clay surfaced oval, sliding around the turns inches from each other, and the track was really slick by the time the sprints took the track.

One of the guys I sit with has a business that sponsored 10 cars this year.

Yep! And I know the feeling! My sister and I (she's just turned 85 and quite disabled) often remark how we never get any visitors any more. She has a son and a daughter who often seem to promise to come over but then, at the last minute, find they have something pressing they need to do like feeding the chickens or doing the laundry! Gosh these youngster know how to make a person feel valued!

I'm blessed in that regard. My moved out children stay in touch, in fact I couldn't do it without 2 of my daughters.
